Static vs Dynamic QR Codes: Which Do You Need?

A clear comparison of static and dynamic QR codes: cost, expiry, tracking and editing. Find out which one suits your project.

Static QR codes

The content is stored directly in the code. Free, permanent, unlimited scans and no tracking. The trade-off: you can't change the content after printing.

Dynamic QR codes

The code contains a short link to a redirect service, which then forwards to your destination. You can change the destination and count scans — but the code only works while the service exists and your plan is active.

Which should you choose?

For most people — menus, WiFi, business cards, posters and product links — a static QR pointing to a page you control is the simplest and most reliable option. Consider dynamic codes only if you truly need scan analytics or must change the destination on already-printed material.
