How to Print a QR Code That Scans Every Time

Practical printing tips for QR codes: size, quiet zone, contrast, materials and placement.

Checklist

  • Minimum 2 × 2 cm (0.8 in); larger for anything scanned from a distance
  • Dark QR on a light background
  • Keep the white border (quiet zone) around the code
  • Avoid glossy surfaces that reflect light
  • Don't place it on curved or folded surfaces where possible

Use vector files

Send SVG or PDF to your print shop so the edges stay crisp, especially on large formats.

Add a call to action

Tell people what they'll get: 'Scan for the menu' or 'Scan to join WiFi'. People scan more when they know why.
